Historic Fairhaven Salmon Barbecue

Join us for a day of food, fun and sales in Historic Fairhaven!

I can smell the barbecue and all the fixins now.  Stop by an enjoy a menu derived for the Pacific Northwest:  Cooked by fishermen who know the best barbecuing techniques-- Pacific Northwest King Salmon, plus delicious sides, like coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob, bread, dessert and a beverage.  For the little ones, we will have a separate hot dog meal available.

 Fairhaven Salmon Barbecue

Saturday, September 19 || 1-4pm || $12 per person for the salmon bbq meal and a kids' hot dog meal sold separately.

Fairhaven was famous for this event in the 1980s, has a heritage as once the "salmon canning center of the west coast" and now this BBQ is a regular September celebration for the community!  Whether you're a resident, neighbor or a visitor, come to the Village Green for the day.

In addition, make sure you wander the historic streets for the 'One Day District-wide Sidewalk Sale" for some great bargains on books, clothes, shoes, pottery, crafts, housewares, garden items... the list of what's available in the district is endless! While you're here, discover new shops as well as some that have been here for a long time but you've not had a chance to experience, and the many great restaurant options in the neighborhood! Do I dare say....  Is is too early for some Christmas shopping??

Don't forget you can always count on great music and other fun in Historic Fairhaven!

Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema

Tonight is cooling off to be an excellent evening for a night out on the Village Green in Historic Fairhaven for the Outdoor Cinema.

Sun setting on the Village Green

The festivities begin at 8pm with the Pennystinkers playing music, while the crowds arrive for the movie.  You can order pizza for delivery to the Village Green from Fairhaven Pizza or enjoy Colophon ice cream or Serena's gelato to cool you off.

The movie tonight, Young Frankenstein, is a classic! Be sure to get there early for a good seat.  Bring a blanket to lounge in the grass or a lawn chair for along side the green.

Hope to see you there on the Village Green in Historic Fairhaven.

A Northwest Weekend in Bellingham WA

The August issue of Sunset Magazine features Bellingham, WA as an excellent place to spend a day, weekend or lifetime.

The excellent article walks you through an assortment of things to do featuring locally owned businesses that most locals would agree are great places to go.  The Historic Fairhaven District, Quel Fromage, Boulevard Park, the Farmers Market, Mallards Ice Cream and the Little Cheerful Cafe to name a few.

Hiking, biking and boating are mentioned, among all the eating, as a few of the many outdoor activities you can enjoy which includes a sunset cruise on my friend, Captain Todd's catamaran the Gato Verde.

Once you visit Bellingham, WA you will be hooked!  If you are interested in checking out the local Real Estate market be sure to talk to the local expert Miss Fairhaven.

Mother's Day in Historic Fairhaven

Looking for something fun to do with mom.  Head to Fairhaven for an afternoon of boutique and gallery shopping.   Whether it be art, shoes, clothes, home furnishing, flowers, jewelry books or toys you are bound to find something fun in Fairhaven.  While in the stores ask for the Fairhaven Shopping Guide, which is a directory for store information, maps, services and health care within the district.  You can also get a walking tour map that will show you the streets, trails and stores.

Fairhaven Village Green

For an additional treat, check out CreaTiviTea and paint your own pottery.  There are hundreds of pieces to choose from or you can design your own Fused Glass.  Located on 11th Street, stop in with mom and create heirloom pieces together.

Wander and stroll the district, while enjoying the historic architecture of the old and new mixed use buildings.  Look for the plaques on the ground in various areas, especially down Harris Avenue and learn about the history of Fairhaven.  If you stop in the Village Green you can see the bronze statue of Dirty Dan Harris sitting on a bench and the antique Tulip fountain.

And when you are hungry, stop in at one of the fine eating establishments in Fairhaven.  Whether it be soup, steak, fish, Thai, Italian or Mexican you will be able to find a great meal to satisfy you and mom.

After a nice meal, a walk along the 10th Street trail to Taylor Street dock, and if you are up for it around the point to Boulevard Park.  A nice way to finish the day with mom in Fairhaven.

Bellingham and "the arts"

Whatcom County is not only an active community, but a creative one as well.  Whether it be theatre, music, comedy or dance, there is something for each one of us to appreciate.  There is a wide array of activities in "the arts" for both adults and children to enjoy.

The Historic and renovated in the recent past, Mount Baker Theatre located in downtown Bellingham and Western Washington University's Performing Arts Center bring world class performers to the stage for our community members to enjoy.  Currently, the Golden Dragon Acrobats, a premiere Chinese acrobatic touring company is back by popular demand on May 16th and the WWU-PAC has two plays running on the mainstage performed by the students in the Theatre Arts programs.

While the Lynden Performing Arts Guild presents Something's Afoot, a murder mystery musical that spoofs all things detective the Bellingham Theatre Guild concludes it's 2008-09 season with "The Boys from Syracuse", a madcap musical.  Both theatres are operated by dedicated community members that are passionate about acting.

Looking for a laugh, then check out The Upfront Theatre downtown on Bay Street.  You can see stand up comedy, live improv or take classes at the theatre.  The Good, The Bad and The Ugly plays every Thursday at 8pm.

To stay on top of the many different creative avenues available to you pick up a copy of Entertainment News NW, which has a calendar of events to include descriptions and ongoing activities.
