Fairhaven Library Re-opens after Renovation
Fairhaven's beautiful 106 year old Library is open again after undergoing thorough renovations over the past year.
The southside Library was donated by Andrew Carnegie in 1904 and has served the surrounding neighborhoods as a full service Library. Besides books you can also go to the Library for classes, meetings or gatherings in one of their reservable spaces in the attic or basement areas.

Library hours have been reduced to, Tuesday through Saturday from 2 to 6pm, due to budget cuts.

The Fairhaven district is very grateful to the Friends of the Fairhaven Library who have work tenaciously to raise funds to support the Library, to include furniture and getting the fireplace turned back on after decades.

End of an era in Historic Fairhaven
The old passenger railway cars departed Fairhaven via the flatbed trailer of a semi truck.

After 34 years of residing around the old Bob's service station at the intersection of 12th & Harris Avenues the cars were loaded on to awaiting trucks with a huge Sickelsteel Crane. It was quite the site watching all the activity from my condo windows. Many people gathered around the site to watch as the crane hooked up to the cars, lifted them overhead and dropped them down on to the trailers.
This end of an era change in Historic Fairhaven goes right along with all the other changes that have been happening the past few years. To include renovation of 1890 buildings, construction of new mixed used commercial buildings, which increased the residential density in the district core. The future plans for this site is the possible creation of a modern replica of the Historic Fairhaven Hotel.
Fairhaven's Historic Building gets Facelift
The Historic Fairhaven District sees growth with new mixed use commercial & residential buildings and refurbishing of the old buildings.

The Morgan Block Building was constructed in 1890, prior to the depression of 1893. This beautiful building has been amidst a tremendous amount of change in the district. In 1969 the building was purchased and turned into a community trust. Over the years this building has housed the Community Food Co-op, an alternative newspaper and currently is home to Artwood Gallery, Good Earth Pottery, plus the upper floors are used as studio space for artists.
If you have been to Fairhaven lately, you probably noticed the scaffolding in the front and along the side of the building. As of today, the repair work is complete and this beautiful building shows the same exterior as it did when it was completed in 1890.
